So, what is a digital diary? I’m glad you asked.
Back in December of 2013, I received my first Canon camera and I decided to make a YouTube channel. I was super excited because I knew exactly what my channel was going to be catered towards: natural hair. I was going to show people how I styled and cared for my hair in hopes that I would help and educate my viewers. It was great! I got so many views and a ton of subscribers. I was really helping people, and they were watching and listening to me!
But then, it got repetitive. The content on YouTube regarding natural hair began to bore me and I didn’t want to remake videos that were oversaturated. Plus, I’m not very creative when it comes to styling my hair. I don’t like protective styling often with wigs, braids, or crochets, and I began to not care to do my hair as much due to heat and color damage. So I decided to cut my hair (like shave my sides) and it was the best decision I could have ever made! I finally felt like Ambria. Short hair fits my style and personality, so it was a great reboot for my channel. However, I still felt like my channel was lacking substance. My hair wasn’t/isn’t the core of who I am as a person and I’d much rather be talking about topics with more depth such as college stressors, journaling and its healing capabilities, or simply just more of who I am as a person.
So sure, topics like that may not get as many views, because there’s no blue print to life, but my hope is that they’ll help guide someone and make life more bearable. So, in essence, learn from my experiences, or at least make better decisions. Thus Digital Diaries was created! Testimonies, stories, and experiences are meant to be shared and I want to do just that.
